In the early 70's Marc started shaping for his brother and friends and finally after completing 2 years compulsory military service, he took on a job with Town and Country in 1980, Working with Nigel Perrow, Graham Smith, Cyril budd and Errol Hickman.
During this time he came 16th in the Gunston 500 surfing his own boards,
In 1983 he received a personal invitation from Kazumi Nakamuri to shape for C.H.P Japan. He was in awe to see such precision and quality manufacture and this attention to detail has stayed with him to this day, he returned to South Africa to work for Country rhythm with Lyle Coney, and had a great time working alonside the thruster inventor Simon Anderson.

Marc stayed with them for 5 years before starting his own factory at the age of 28, For three years he worked in Cape Town under the name of Skil Surfboards, then in 1992 he started Spowy surfboards, since then he has shaped in Japan, Portugal, England and France, sent custom shapes all over the world and freelance shaped for Billabong, Rip Curl, Quiksilver, Sequence and Pheonix surfboards,
